A homestay is a popular form of hospitality and lodging whereby visitors share a residence with a local of the city to which they are travelling. In layman terms, Homestay means staying in a spare room of a house where the house owner is there. Homestays are a type of accommodation that define the phrase a ‘home from home. In a homestay, you book to stay with a local in their home. They are your ‘host’ during your stay. The length of the stay can be a day or over a year and the compensation is decided among the owner and the guest. While staying in a homestay not only you get a warm welcome from the host but you also get the chance to see and experience how the locals really live their daily life and how is their livelihood different from theirs. And, in terms of monetary issues staying in a homestay is quite cheaper than staying in expensive hotel rooms. In, Nepal too homestay has been the hot topic and locals have finally started the homestays.
