Overview

The Shivapuri-Baghdwar hiking trail, located just north of Kathmandu, Nepal, is a popular and scenic route that offers a mix of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and breathtaking views. Starting from the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park near Budhanilkantha, the trail takes hikers through dense forests filled with oak, pine, and rhododendron trees. Along the way, you'll encounter the serene Baghdwar, believed to be one of the sources of the sacred Bagmati River, and a spot marked by prayer flags and a small shrine. The hike culminates at Shivapuri Peak, the second-highest point surrounding the Kathmandu Valley at 2,732 meters, offering panoramic views of the Himalayas and the valley below on clear days. The hike is moderately challenging, with some steep sections, and typically takes 5-7 hours for a round trip. The best time to visit is during spring or autumn when the weather is clear, making it ideal for enjoying the rich flora and fauna as well as the cultural sites along the trail.

Tour Itinerary

The hike offers a rich blend of natural beauty and cultural experiences. Starting from Budhanilkantha, a town known for its temple dedicated to the reclining Vishnu, you head towards the entrance of Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, which is just a short walk away.

After purchasing an entry permit, the trail begins with a gradual ascent through dense forests, leading you to Nagi Gompa, a Buddhist monastery that offers serene surroundings and views of the Kathmandu Valley. Continuing upward, the path becomes steeper as you make your way to Shivapuri Peak, the second-highest point surrounding the valley at 2,732 meters. From the summit, you’re rewarded with stunning panoramic views of the Himalayas and the valley below.

The descent takes you along a different route, leading to Dada Gau, a charming village nestled in the hills. This section of the hike is less strenuous, allowing you to enjoy the tranquil rural landscape before completing the loop ending at Dada Gau. The ride will be waiting for us at Dada Gau. We will proceed to transfer to your accommodation after we have lunch with authentic local taste.
