Upper Mustang, also referred to as Lo Manthang, stands as a restricted gem nestled in the Himalayas, sharing its boundary with Tibet. For those seeking to embark on a journey to Upper Mustang, securing special permits from the government is imperative. This region is a testament to preservation, remaining unexplored and shrouded in secrecy, making it one of the world's hidden treasures.

Bounded by snow-capped mountains, including the towering Annapurna I and II, Upper Mustang unfolds a mesmerizing landscape that beckons adventurers. The terrain of Mustang offers an exhilarating challenge, pushing the boundaries of riding passion and skills, leaving riders with a triumphant sense of accomplishment. This mystical land encapsulates the essence of uncharted beauty and cultural richness, making a visit to Mustang a pilgrimage every traveler should undertake at least once in their lifetime.

Tour Itinerary

On this day, the group will be arriving in Kathmandu at the Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM), our office representative will be there to receive the group. From there, you’ll be transferred to the selected hotel in Kathmandu. The group will have few hours of refreshment time, after that we’ll have a brief discussion about the trip, the bikes, safety, and all. After the briefing the rest of the day will be leisure time. Overnight at hotel.

Early in the morning you will be driving from Kathmandu to Pokhara .We will cover the total distance of 208km between Kathmandu and Pokhara along the snaky highway. It’s a 7-8 hrs long drive that passes though Trishuli River. You will enjoy the scenic drive along with some glimpse of majestic mountains on your way to Pokhara.

On our first ride day, we will start our ride at 09:00 AM up to Tatopani on 65 kilometers of blacktopped roads and 38 kilometers of off-road. We will be reaching Tatopani by the evening. You will experience amazing mountain views on the Pokhara-Baglung highway. En route we will be having short breaks for refreshments in the available local shops. After 6-7 hours of ride from Pokhara, we will reach Tatopani. The team will have time to freshen up and go for a bath at the Hot springs in Tatopani.

On our second day of the ride, early in the morning we will be having breakfast to start our ride. We will ride to Kaagbeni, at the altitude of 2,850 meters, and stop for lunch on the way. We will enjoy amazing scenery and landscapes on our way to Kaagbeni. With the experience of changing landscapes with mountains, cultures, and rural habitat of Nepal with the sprinkle of peace of mind and spiritual happiness.

Starting from Tatopani, you'll navigate through winding mountain roads that gradually ascend amidst lush greenery and rustic villages. The initial stretch takes you through the town of Tatopani, where the road begins to gain altitude, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks in the distance. Simultaneously, upon reaching Lete we will take a detour to a Single track taking us to the less explored Titi Lake. The journey culminates in Kagbeni, a charming village nestled in the Kali Gandaki Valley, known for its ancient monastery and stunning vistas of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains. After reaching Kagbeni we will be having some rest and there after we can explore the town. We will be having the dinner at the hotel and overnight at the hotel.

Start early from Kagbeni (≈2,800 m) around 8:00 AM, riding north along the Kali Gandaki River through the stark, wind-carved trans-Himalayan landscape of Upper Mustang.
The 35–40 km ride takes about 3–4 hours with stops, passing Chhusang’s red cliffs, apple orchards, and narrow canyons where the river cuts deep into ancient sedimentary rock.
You’ll cross suspension bridges and ride beneath views of Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, and Tilicho peaks, with prayer flags, chortens, and eroded cave dwellings dotting the hillsides.
A short halt at Tangbe village offers whitewashed houses, barley fields, and a glimpse of traditional Mustang life shaped by Tibetan culture.
Continuing north, the terrain becomes drier and wider, with long gravel stretches and dramatic desert colors sculpted by strong valley winds.
By Late afternoon,arrive at Tsarang (Charang, ≈3,560 m), once the capital of Mustang, set in a broad fertile basin.
Explore the impressive Tsarang Monastery, ancient fortress, and vast barley fields, framed by cliffs and big-sky silence that define Upper Mustang’s timeless geography.

Start early from Tsarang around 7:30 AM, beginning a long and scenic ≈100 km motorbike ride across the remote high-altitude geography of Upper Mustang.
The journey takes 4–5 hours, riding through vast arid plateaus, wind-sculpted cliffs, dry riverbeds, and open valleys that reflect the raw Trans-Himalayan desert landscape.
En route, detour to Lo Ghekar Monastery, one of Nepal’s oldest monasteries, dramatically perched against ochre cliffs and surrounded by deep spiritual silence.
The trail is dotted with mani walls, chortens, nomadic yak pastures, and distant views of Nilgiri and Annapurna ranges, with strong winds and wide gravel tracks defining the ride.
As you approach the northern plains, the terrain flattens and the horizon opens, revealing the historic walled city ahead.
By early afternoon (around 1:00–2:00 PM), arrive at Lo Manthang (3,840 m), the ancient capital of the former Kingdom of Lo.
Check into local lodge accommodation, then rest and acclimatize while soaking in the unique Tibetan culture, royal palace, monasteries, and timeless atmosphere of Lo Manthang.

On Day 7, you will explore the wonders of Lo Manthang. Once a vital trade route, this area offers stunning views of the Tibetan Plateau and Upper Mustang’s rugged terrain. You will explore Jhong Cave (Chhoser Cave), a fascinating 2,500-year-old, multi-storied cave system used for meditation and shelter by early settlers.

In the afternoon, you’ll visit Lo Manthang’s ancient monasteries, including Jampa Lhakhang, Thupchen Gompa, and Chode Monastery, known for their intricate murals and Buddhist relics. If time permits, a short trip to villages near Lo Manthang.

As the day ends, enjoy free time strolling through Lo Manthang’s walled city, visiting tea houses, or watching a local cultural performance. A short hike to a nearby viewpoint offers a stunning sunset over the Mustang landscape, making for a perfect end to the day.

Start early from Lo Manthang (3,800 m) and ride for about 2–2.5 hours across the barren Upper Mustang trans-Himalayan desert, passing the ancient walled city, Royal Palace, and Jampa & Thubchen monasteries, while covering roughly 35–40 km. Continue descending along the Kali Gandaki corridor toward Kagbeni, reaching in another 1–1.5 hours (≈30 km), where a short tea and rest break is ideal in this historic trading village. Ride onward for around 45 minutes (≈15 km) to the Jomsom–Thini area, stopping briefly at Dhumba Lake for photos before taking a 45–60-minute lunch break. After lunch, continue the final 25–30 km, riding 1.5–2 hours on gravel and rocky terrain through windswept high-altitude landscapes toward Muktinath (3,710 m). The full journey covers approximately 97 km and takes 6–7 hours, including breaks, arriving by mid-afternoon, resting at Ranipauwa.

Start early from Ranipauwa (3,710 m) with a morning visit to Muktinath Temple, offering prayers at the 108 water spouts, Jwala Mai (eternal flame), and nearby monasteries, then have breakfast before beginning the ride. Depart Muktinath by mid-morning and descend toward Jomsom, riding through high-altitude arid trans-Himalayan terrain and wide valleys for about 1.5–2 hours (≈35 km). Continue along the dramatic Kali Gandaki Gorge, passing Marpha and Tatopani, with a tea/snack break en route and a lunch stop at Tatopani after another 2–2.5 hours (≈40 km), where you can relax briefly near the natural hot springs. After lunch, ride through lush mid-hill landscapes, terraced farms, and forested roads as the climate turns subtropical, covering the final 45–50 km in 2–2.5 hours. The total ride to Pokhara is approximately 155 km, taking 7–8 hours including temple visit, breaks, and lunch. Arrive in Pokhara by late afternoon, check in to your hotel, enjoy a lakeside walk at Phewa Lake, relax at a café, or opt for a sunset boat ride to unwind after the long Himalayan ride.

This marks the end of the program, concluding the journey with cherished memories of the natural beauty, cultural richness, and spiritual essence experienced throughout the trip. . It will be a scenic drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu. You will return with lots of memories that you can cherished for life time.

This day will be our last day together in Nepal. On this day we will have breakfast, we will make sure to arrive at Kathmandu International Airport with plenty of time before your flight back home. During our time at the airport we will be saying our last goodbyes with the hope to see each other again in the future. With the prayers for the team’s safe flight back home equipped with ever lasting memories together.
